Experience This Live #5: Pilgrims Song

During the Motab Christmas party we were given a recording of our ACDA concert from February 2015. This program has been my favorite program so far during my entire time in choir. I was elated to get the CD and listened to it the same night of the party. It was glorious.

One of the songs on there is Pilgrims Song and was arranged by our very own Ryan Murphy. I have since purchased the sheet music and have been playing it. When my daughter first heard it in the Tabernacle she told me she felt the spirit so strong during this song and I agree there is something so beautiful about the lyrics, melody and especially the arrangement.

The song is an anthem about a Pilgrim's journey. The music beautifully takes the listener on a journey as well. I wish this was in the hymnbook. The lyrics and video are below.

As I watch the video I like it but there really isn't anything like hearing this live with an orchestra, the choir and conducted by emotive Ryan Murphy himself. It's like the music comes out of his entire being when he conducts.

PILGRIM SONG – LYRICS

My brethren, I have found
a land that doth abound
with fruit as sweet as honey;
The more I eat, I find,
The more I am inclined
To shout and sing hosanna.

Chorus:
My soul doth long to go where I may fully know
The glory of my Savior;
And as I pass along I’ll sing the Christian song,
I’m going to live forever.

Perhaps you think me wild,
or simple as a child;
I am a child of glory;
I am born from above,
my soul is filled with love;
I love to tell the story.

Chorus

My soul now sits and sings
and practices its wings,
and contemplates the hour
When the messenger shall say,
‘Come quit this house of clay,
and with bright angels tower.’

Chorus

And as I pass along
I’ll sing the Christian song,
I’m going to live forever.
Forever.
