What is it Like? Concert Week

What is it like during a Concert Week?

I was asked this on twitter and here is the answer.

A choir member should anticipate rehearsals every night of that week except for Monday.

For example, this week is the 2015 Chorale concert. We are performing Mozart's Requiem. We will be rehearsing Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Thursday evening is a dress rehearsal. Friday and Saturday are performances. Every night of this week is filled with choir activities usually starting around 7:00 until 9:30. Some days are earlier for warm up and to dress in concert clothing. Here's a link to this years Chorale Concert. Apparently it is sold out.

Like clockwork we will be back on Sunday morning for Music and the Spoken Word.

2014 Christmas Concert with Santino Fontana and the Sesame Street Muppets
Of all the Concerts I have done (Messiah, Pioneer Day, General Conference, Christmas, Chorale, Deer Valley, Richfield, etc.) the most demanding for me was Christmas. We performed the concert on Friday evening and had to come in around noon on Saturday for a recording session before the concert that night. After arriving home late on a Saturday night we all had to return a few hours later for Music and the Spoken Word and a mini-concert on Sunday morning. Busy? yes. Worth it? Absolutely.

Before a Concert there are usually 2 required rehearsals. These are rehearsals that a choir member MUST attend in order to participate. Failure to attend these required rehearsals may forfeit the choir members opportunity to participate in the concert.

Attendance is taken at every rehearsal and event. A cumulative attendance determines continued participation in the choir.

What is it like during Concert Week? Plan to spend the entire week of the Concert going through rehearsals and performances (in the evenings) to be followed by Music and the Spoken Word on Sunday morning.

Busy but so much fun! Now you know and knowing is half the battle. (I had to put in that G.I. Joe quote.)
